The Bottom Line

The term ‘bottom line’ is defined as i) the primary or most important factor and ii) the line at the bottom of a financial report that shows net profit or loss / the final result. In business, bottom line refers mainly to net income. Business organisations are formed primarily with the twin objectives of generating profit and maximising wealth (the bottom line). When everyone in the organisation act in cognisance of the bottom line, attainment of the organisation’s financial objectives will become a default setting which is tantamount to institutionalising a profit-driven organisational culture.
